Leadership Excellence

Leadership, in my experience, is not defined by position or authority.

It is defined by the ability to bring people together, align them to a common goal and enable them to achieve results—even in challenging situations.

Through my professional journey across manufacturing, process improvement, digital transformation and cross-functional projects, I have learned that leadership is deeply connected with people, process and purpose.

Leadership is not about driving growth or profit alone. It is about inclusivity of all stakeholders, having a clear long-term vision and achieving organizational goals through improvement in people, process and technology.

For me, leadership is about creating an environment where people understand the purpose, contribute to the solution and grow in the process

One of the most defining leadership experiences in my career was when we faced a situation where production needed to increase significantly, but the workforce and union were not aligned with the requirement.

There was concern about increased workload, and even internal teams were not fully convinced that the target could be achieved.

This situation required not just decision-making—but leadership through alignment, trust and collaboration.

Increasing Production Through Alignment and Trust

The business required an increase in production, but there was resistance from workmen and union representatives due to concerns about workload and sustainability.

Instead of forcing the decision, I focused on building alignment:

  • Conducted discussions with team members to explain the business need
  • Encouraged brainstorming and idea sharing
  • Identified technical improvements (machine speed and load optimization)
  • Collaborated with maintenance teams for implementation
  • Engaged union leaders transparently
  • Aligned the outcome with employee incentives

  • Team alignment was achieved
  • Resistance was reduced through understanding and trust
  • Production improvement was achieved and sustained
  • Stronger trust was built between leadership and workforce

Among all transformation experiences, process improvement has been closest to my leadership journey.

It requires:

  • Deep understanding of process behavior
  • Identifying root causes
  • Exploring multiple solutions
  • Selecting the most suitable approach
  • Balancing people, process and technology

Process improvement is where leadership is truly tested—because it requires technical understanding, people alignment and execution discipline together.

One of my core focus areas has been developing people.

My approach includes:

  • Delegating responsibility
  • Encouraging problem solving
  • Promoting knowledge sharing
  • Providing cross-functional exposure
  • Empowering individuals to take ownership

I strongly believe that leadership is not about creating followers—it is about creating future leaders.

In many situations, leadership is required without direct authority.

My learning in such situations:

  • People respect knowledge and clarity of intent
  • A common goal brings different teams together
  • Inclusive behavior builds long-term collaboration
  • Supporting others builds mutual trust
  • Taking ownership of failure encourages team confidence

True leadership is demonstrated when people choose to support you—not because they have to, but because they trust your intent.

My decision-making is guided by:

  • Understanding facts and reality
  • Exploring possible options
  • Evaluating impact on people, process and stakeholders
  • Remaining unbiased and objective
  • Considering different viewpoints before finalizing decisions

For me, good decisions are those that are balanced, practical and sustainable.

Failure and resistance are part of any leadership journey.

My key learnings:

  • No Failure is permanent
  • Always identify root causes
  • Explore alternative solutions
  • Respect and evaluate other viewpoints
  • Maintain patience and conviction

Leadership is not about avoiding failure—it is about learning, adapting and moving forward.

Through my experience, I look at leadership through three essential elements:

Leadership becomes effective when these three elements work together.

If people who worked with me remember my leadership, I would want them to remember me as supportive, someone who gave them freedom to experiment without fear of failure, and someone who helped them grow into future leaders.

At its core, leadership is about people.

It is about understanding their concerns, enabling their growth and creating an environment where they can perform at their best.

Technology, processes and systems support performance—but people drive results.
